The eight teams are Perugia of Italy, reigning world champions and reigning CEV Champions League winners; Sada Cruzeiro of Brazil, five-time world champions; Vôlei Renata, also of Brazil; Ziraat of Türkiye, making their debut; Al Ahly of Egypt; Foolad Sirjan Iranian of Iran; and Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi of Indonesia, also debuting.

The striking detail lies elsewhere. Host nation Poland has no representative on the list, and the competition schedule and ticketing information will be published later. For an event staged on European soil, the absence of a home club is a technical detail, and it also opens the possibility that a wild card will be added.

I remember watching Jakarta in an Asian quarter-final a few seasons ago, inside a hall hotter than the temperature outside, and writing one line in my notebook: the first Indonesian men's club to win the continental title. The most notable point on this list is not Perugia's presence, but the first-ever appearance of an Indonesian men's club at world level. Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi's berth comes from the Asian title, the first continental club crown in Indonesian men's volleyball. That is a structural signal earned on court.

For most of the tournament's history, the trophy has stayed with European and South American clubs, while Asian and African sides usually lasted only a few matches. The simultaneous presence of an Indonesian, an Iranian and an Egyptian club shows the organisers are widening the distribution map rather than simply filling berths.

The format is eight teams in groups followed by knockout. A short format rewards consistency, but it also means one bad match can end a campaign. For non-European teams, travel load is the most tangible variable: South American, Asian and African clubs face a long flight before their first match, while Perugia barely have to shift time zones.
